PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: January 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Ridekit (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use ridekit.fr (the “Site”). This is an MVP website hosted on GitHub Pages.

What we collect

We do not ask you to create an account and we do not collect your name, address, or payment details.

  • Inputs you type on the site (e.g., filters, settings) are processed locally in your browser to generate recommendations.
  • Basic technical data may be processed by our hosting/analytics providers (e.g., IP address, device/browser, approximate location, timestamps).

Cookies

Ridekit itself does not require cookies for core functionality. However, Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar identifiers depending on your browser settings and how analytics is configured. If you want “zero cookies”, remove the Google Analytics snippet from the site.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand traffic and improve the product (for example: which pages are visited and basic usage patterns). Analytics is optional for the site to work.

Third‑party services we use

  • GitHub Pages for hosting and delivering the website.
  • Open‑Meteo API to fetch weather forecasts when you select a mountain.
  • OpenStreetMap (and Leaflet) to display maps.
  • Affiliate links (when enabled): clicking an affiliate link sends you to the retailer’s website, which has its own privacy policy.

Affiliate disclosure

Ridekit participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. This means that some links on the site may be affiliate links. If you click on such a link and make a purchase, Ridekit may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

As an Amazon Associate, Ridekit earns from qualifying purchases.

How your data is used

  • To provide the site features (map, forecast, gear suggestions).
  • To measure and improve performance and usability (analytics, if enabled).
  • To prevent abuse and keep the site secure (hosting logs).

Data retention

We don’t run a user database for Ridekit. Any analytics or server logs are retained by third‑party providers under their own retention settings/policies.

Your choices

  • You can block cookies and trackers using your browser settings or privacy extensions.
  • You can disable analytics by using browser tracking protection, or we can remove analytics from the site entirely.
  • You can avoid affiliate tracking by not clicking affiliate links.

Contact

For privacy questions, contact us using the contact method listed on the Site (or via the repository where the project is hosted).
